ARLINGTON, Va., Dec. 19, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- LiveSafe, the national leader in helping organizations reduce operational risk and prevent incidents and emergencies, today announced its endorsement of H.R. 6664, the Threat Assessment, Prevention, and Safety Act (TAPS Act). This legislation is sponsored by US Representative Brian Babin of Texas' 36th Congressional District and was introduced earlier this year. It will be reintroduced when the 116th Congress gavels into session on January 3, 2019.
The TAPS Act is designed to enhance the United States' ability to prevent targeted violence before it can occur, much the way the United States Secret Service proactively mitigates potential threats. The legislation creates a task force of subject matter experts who will create a national strategy to prevent targeted violence through threat assessment and management. The national strategy will provide resources, training, and assistance in establishing and operating locally-driven, multidisciplinary threat assessment and management units as well as a specialized school threat assessment program.
This legislation directly aligns with LiveSafe's core mission of identifying and preventing safety and security incidents. LiveSafe's smartphone-based communications app directly and anonymously connects users, such as enterprise employees and school students and faculty, with an institution's security department. By deploying LiveSafe, the security staff is positioned to receive real-time information about potential threats. This intelligence is invaluable in keeping everyone safe and secure. Prevention is more effective – and cost-effective – than efforts to "harden" schools and other institutions against potential threats.
LiveSafe is deployed across the nation at school districts, universities, and Fortune 1,000 companies. The firm is advised by noted law enforcement and security leaders including Governor Tom Ridge and former New York City Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly.
"Addressing today's threats requires a prevention-first approach, said Carolyn Parent, CEO of LiveSafe. "We are heartened that Representative Babin and his colleagues are making emergency prevention a national priority and are excited to work with the US House of Representatives on this critical legislation. Its passage will save lives."
