LiveMe Launches Social Good Initiative To Raise Awareness And Funding For Charitable Causes
The popular live broadcasting app introduces new charity programs leveraging the app's massive user base and virtual gifting mechanism
LOS ANGELES, Oct. 12, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Live.me Inc., the mobile app developer behind popular live broadcasting app LiveMe, today announced a new social good initiative aimed at raising awareness for charitable causes and shedding light on prominent issues affecting users around the world. Starting this month, LiveMe will host in-app charity campaigns on a regular basis, introducing a new charitable giving experience using the app's virtual gifting mechanism to drive community engagement and donations for various social causes.
LiveMe's virtual gifting feature gives broadcasters a way to directly monetize their talents and passions. The app allows fans to show their appreciation and reward their favorite LiveMe personalities by sending virtual gifts that can be converted to cash. After paying out millions of dollars to its broadcasters, LiveMe is now taking this proven concept and using it for good by embedding social causes into the interactive experience.
Throughout the year, LiveMe will highlight different social causes and introduce custom gifts that viewers can send during live broadcasts. These campaigns will be promoted across all channels, including in-app and social media, and part of the virtual gifting proceeds will be donated to relevant non-profit organizations. Beyond the fundraising component, broadcasters and viewers alike can also show their support by sharing personal stories to cope with their own challenges and help others who are struggling with similar issues.
"There's a saying that 'everyone you meet is fighting a battle you know nothing about,' but that doesn't necessarily mean we need to face our challenges alone. There are millions of people around the world who are going through similar struggles," said Yuki He, founder and CEO of LiveMe. "With this new initiative, we're aiming to bring our community together to create a support system built on respect, understanding, and awareness. Many of our users have shared their stories about overcoming life's obstacles and finding their purpose on LiveMe, and we want to continue providing a safe place people can turn to in times of need."
The announcement comes on the heels of LiveMe's success with its latest in-app campaign for National Suicide Prevention Month, which aimed to educate users on how to identify and offer support to someone struggling with depression and thoughts of suicide, as well as methods for coping with depression, anxiety, stress, and other triggers. Dozens of broadcasters shared their stories of hope and recovery, and more than 100,000 viewers tuned in throughout the month to show their support while raising money for The Trevor Project, a non-profit organization focused on suicide prevention efforts among LGBTQ youth.
The Suicide Prevention campaign followed several other one-off campaigns launched throughout the year, including a collaboration with Hashtag Lunchbag, an effort to supply the hungry and homeless with bagged lunches; #SquashTheHate, a viral anti-bullying campaign; Vegas Strong, a public crowdfunding campaign for the victims of the Las Vegas shooting; and others, raising a cumulative total of $120,000 for charity.
LiveMe's social good initiative officially kicks off this month with a campaign for Breast Cancer Awareness. Users can gift the iconic pink ribbon to participating broadcasters and have part of the proceeds donated to the Susan G. Komen, the largest breast cancer organization in the United States.
