Little League World Series Fans: Explore Williamsport's 'Outfield;' Boost Your Social Media Standings
HARRISBURG, Pa., Aug. 19 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Little League World Series spectators will have the opportunity this year to round the social media bases while competing for accolades on Foursquare and Gowalla, Pennsylvania's Deputy Secretary of Tourism Mickey Rowley announced today.
"While we know the World Series is the main event, we are inviting spectators to explore Williamsport and the Pennsylvania Wilds while scoring points in the social media playing field," Rowley said. "Since joining Foursquare, visitPA has attracted more than 11,000 friends while encouraging visitors to explore Pennsylvania."
In May, the commonwealth signed with the Foursquare community under the popular tourism ID "visitPA." Users can share their location; earn points toward special business discounts; offer insider tips to popular restaurants, lodging and attractions; and achieve "mayor" status for being the person who visits a place most often.
Visitors to Pennsylvania also have the opportunity to earn three custom badges: "PA Shooflyer" (food), "PA Retail Polka" (shopping), and "PA 4 Score & 7" (history). Users earn these badges after checking in at eligible locations. For the Little League World Series, several area destinations have been added so these badges can be earned by World Series spectators.
Little League World Series PA Shooflyer check-in locations:
- Bastress Mountain Winery;
- Benjie's Restaurant and Pub;
- Fourth Street Grill and Ale House;
- Haywoods Bar and Grill;
- Herdic House;
- The James; and
- The Old Corner.
Little League World Series PA 4 Score & 7 check-in locations:
- Hiawatha Paddlewheel Riverboat;
- Millionaire's Row;
- Original Little League Inc.;
- Peter Herdic Transportation Museum;
- Peter J. McGovern Little League Museum;
- Williamsport Crosscutters; and
- Williamsport Trolley's.
The Woolrich Outlet Store has been added as a Little League World Series PA Retail Polka check-in location.
In addition to expanding opportunities on Foursquare, a "Major Little League World Series" roadtrip has been created on Gowalla, a location-based social networking service. Users can check-in at various locations via their smart phone. The itinerary includes the Williamsport Hampton Inn, Bullfrog Brewery, and Herdic House on Millionaire's Row.
