LISC Applauds Confirmation of Patrick Corvington to Lead National Service Agency
NEW YORK Feb. 17 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) is applauding the confirmation of a senior member of the Annie E. Casey Foundation as president of the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS), which among other things oversees AmeriCorps.
President Obama's nomination of Patrick Corvington to the important post offers strong leadership to the national service programs that CNCS oversees. "We have long been impressed with Patrick's creative thinking on issues surrounding nonprofits and the strategies that will help them fulfill their missions and flourish," noted Michael Rubinger, LISC president and CEO. "That's in part because of LISC's long partnership with Annie E. Casey and our admiration for the work the foundation does. But it also reflects Patrick's strong leadership and cogent research around capacity-building. His is a significant and welcome perspective for all of us who care deeply about national service and its impact on families and communities."
LISC was among the earliest AmeriCorps sponsors back in 1994. Since then, LISC AmeriCorps has placed more than 1,900 members with community-based organizations focused on the revitalization of disadvantaged communities. LISC AmeriCorps is unique in that it primarily attracts members from the low-income neighborhoods in which it works. Our members are focused on helping implement positive lasting change in their communities, and in the process, they hone the skills needed for a career in community development.
