The 15 Entrepreneurs from Kenya, who were selected from a group of 5000, wrote business plans to capture a month-long educational trip to Connecticut. These 25-35 year-old business owners want to create jobs, break the cycle of poverty and learn how to make the "American Dream" a reality in Kenya. After spending the day with Wilson-Foley and seeing her various businesses, entrepreneur Loise Marangu said, "Your presentation was so simple, precise and practical yet so inspiring and eye-opening. You are a strong woman. Connecticut needs you and so does the world." Wilson-Foley expressed her feelings: "For me, it was inspiring to meet these entrepreneurs who have so many barriers, yet persevere. My hope is they will learn from our mistakes as well as our successes and take that back home to Kenya."
Wilson-Foley owns Blue Fox Run Golf, a 27-hole public course, and All Star Therapy, both in Avon. The Kenyans were treated to a putting lesson. It was the first time any of them had ever been on a golf course. One young entrepreneur fell in love with the sport and hit the island green on her first tee shot. They also toured a rehabilitation facility and watched the therapists in action. A demonstration of ground breaking bio-medical equipment to identify swallowing problems they said was the most fascinating part of their day-long learning.
