Company Expands Beyond Model Trains with Introduction of Revolutionary Product Called Mega Tracks at Annual Toy Industry Event
NEW YORK, Feb. 12, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Lionel, the iconic model train company, is set to introduce its diverse product offerings for 2016 during the North American International Toy Fair at the Jacob K. Javitz Convention Center in New York City. Coming off of a successful 115th anniversary year, Lionel is moving full steam ahead in 2016 with the introduction of Mega Tracks, a revolutionary new product that expands the company beyond model trains. In addition, the company will launch a new collaboration with the beloved Disney® brand, debut an all-new ready-to-play collection and expand its O-Gauge train sets. The new collection will be on display from February 13-16, 2016 in booth #2943.
"For the past 115 years, Lionel has been a leading model train manufacturer that consumers know, love and trust. We are thrilled to showcase the evolution of the company with the introduction of Mega Tracks, which allows kids to engage in an all new level of play with a revolutionary rail system where they build their own race courses," said Mike Phillips, Vice President, Brand Marketing, Lionel. "We're also extremely excited to be offering train sets that feature adored Disney characters."
Anchoring Lionel's 2016 product lineup is Mega Tracks, an innovative new product that goes above and beyond traditional train play. With Mega Tracks, kids' imaginations can run wild as they design and build their own race courses, including creating their own stunts by twisting the track. Utilizing a new clamp and construction system, kids can build anywhere, including on the floor or attaching to furniture, to create one-of-a-kind race courses. Once the layout and stunts are built, kids can send the rail racer vehicle into high speed action by using a handheld RC controller to adjust the speed of the vehicle and keep it on the track.
Lionel is also introducing a ready-to-play collection, which will feature some of kids' favorite brands, including Disney, The Polar Express™ and John Deere™. Highlights in the collection include the Disney Mickey Mouse Express Ready-to-Play Set, featuring iconic Disney characters dressed in their Christmas best. The sets are battery powered and feature an easy to connect interlocking track with various layout options. The ready-to-play sets come with everything kids need to engage in imaginative train play, including a locomotive, cars, track and a RC remote control with easy-to-use buttons.
In addition, the company is expanding its O-Gauge collection in 2016 to offer fans an even more diverse assortment, including the new Disney Mickey's Holiday to Remember set. Additionally, Lionel is introducing a set that's perfect for Harry Potter fans – Hogwarts Express™ LionChief Set. The highly detailed, exquisitely crafted and electric-powered train sets are a perfect hobby for the entire family, as they are easy to set up and include everything needed to get started. The trains come equipped with a LionChief™ remote control that allows engineers of all ages to adjust the train speed, sounds and direction up to 60 feet away.
