SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 3, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- The Linux Foundation Executive Director Jim Zemlin will keynote Postgres Vision 2016, the international conference for technology and industry visionaries to explore the future of enterprise Postgres, open source, entrepreneurship, and innovation. Postgres Vision will be held October 11-13, 2016, at the iconic Innovation Hangar (iHangar) in the Palace of Fine Arts, San Francisco.
Zemlin joins an all-star agenda that features a keynote from Apple® Computer Inc. co-founder Steve Wozniak and more than 35 influential technology and business luminaries, Fortune 500 use cases, and members of the open source data management ecosystem, including a top lineup of Postgres community leaders from around the world.
"Open source is already established as the standard for software development, but it's now becoming something greater. Open source is also proving to be the new economic norm as the projects that are succeeding are learning to create thriving and sustainable ecosystems," said Jim Zemlin, executive director of The Linux Foundation. "I look forward to joining the incredible group of leaders from around the globe at Postgres Vision to discuss how collaboration across developers, companies, and users is stimulating open technology development in a manner that's setting many projects on a road to long-term success."
As executive director of The Linux Foundation for more than a decade, Zemlin has helped multiple industries navigate major transitions from technologies built with proprietary software to a world in which almost all technology infrastructure is built collaboratively with open source software.
Zemlin's work has led to substantial industry support for open source software, from the Core Infrastructure Initiative to transformative projects such as Hyperledger and Node.js. It has also resulted in support for important Linux Foundation-led efforts to increase diversity in technology and education for and access to open source software.
Home to the world's largest open source project in history, Linux, and its creator, Linus Torvalds, The Linux Foundation is focused on sustaining the greatest shared resources of our time and protecting them for generations to come. From securing the Internet to running the world's stock exchanges, mobile devices, and data centers, open technologies are the underpinning of the world in which we live.
Prior to becoming the head of The Linux Foundation, Zemlin worked at a variety of startups in Silicon Valley, including Covalent and Corio. He started his career in the telecom space at Western Wireless. He has been recognized for his insights on the changing economics of the technology industry, with his writing appearing in Bloomberg, Wired and other top technology journals.
