"LingroToGo™ only scratches the surface of what's possible when you combine language teaching by humans with the power of mobile gaming," says Steve Debow, CEO at LingroLearning. "Our hope is that LingroToGo™ will inspire many to see the value and reap the rewards of communicating appropriately across cultures."
Created by Dr. Julie Sykes and her team at the Center for Applied Second Language Studies (CASLS) at the University of Oregon, LingroToGo™ is based on the latest learning science and inspires learners to master Spanish, the second most spoken language in the world. "The games in this app have been created to really make you think and to entice you to strive for the next level because you see your success," adds Dr. Sykes.
"Game-based play teaches you to tolerate the ambiguity needed for good language learning and rewards you for the things that have been shown to result in greater proficiency," according to Bob Hemmer, Chief Innovation Officer for LingroLearning. Users earn XP and valuable coins for time spent in the app, accuracy, speed, and problem-solving—all elements that have been shown to increase language proficiency.
LingroToGo™ offers opportunities for contextualized learning that do not rely on translation. Over 250 videos promote strategies to build users' confidence and encourage better learning habits. Video-based lessons demonstrate how to practically and appropriately use language.
