HUNTSVILLE, Ala., Sept. 23, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- LINE-X, a leading developer of high performance protective coatings, announced today the uncovering of their contribution to Oak Ridge National Laboratory's (ORNL) Additive Manufacturing Integrated Energy (AMIE) demonstration project, a model of innovative and renewable technologies. AMIE uses an integrated energy system that shares energy between a building and a vehicle. Utilizing one of their leading spray on coating technologies, XS-100, LINE-X contributed the necessary aspects of a watertight seal to protect the house from environmental elements and to provide protection to the insulation underneath. ORNL is unveiling the project today, Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2015 at their lab in Oak Ridge, Tenn. as part of the US Department of Energy's Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) Industry Day.
"Being a key partner in this ORNL demonstration project is another testament to the versatility of our protective coatings. Using our LINE-X XS-100 product, known for superior performance for abrasion resistance, we were proud to provide the project with trusted durability," said Dennis Weese, President of LINE-X. "After spraying the bottom-side of the "arc" ribbing that makes up the house, we are confident in the superior level of protection and strength it has brought to this building."
AMIE was created by ORNL along with industry partners like LINE-X to change the way we think about generating, storing, and using electrical power. ORNL researchers and architects from Skidmore, Owings & Merrill designed the innovative single-room building module to demonstrate new manufacturing and building technology pathways. The design incorporates low-cost vacuum insulated panels into an additively manufactured shell assembled at Clayton Homes, and sprayed by LINE-X.
"Historically, buildings and transportation sectors have sought solutions in energy efficiency independently," said Roderick Jackson, who led the AMIE demonstration project. "In the AMIE demonstration, we're integrating how we generate, use and store renewable energy through a system that shares power between a building and a vehicle. And, using advanced manufacturing and rapid innovation, it only took one year from concept to launch."
LINE-X XS-100, used in protecting the structure's shell, offers outstanding performance and superior elastomeric protective coatings. Designed as a product with a built-in activator for quick cure times, XS-100 offers exceptional adhesion properties on properly prepared substrates. The high performance formulation of XS-100 produces an excellent skin formulation for chemical resistance and moisture protection.
