MURRAY HILL, N.J. and NEW PROVIDENCE, N.J., Sept. 28, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- To meet the ever-increasing EPA regulations for reduced NOx emissions, U.S. manufacturers can turn to Linde LLC for a proven, cost-effective NOx removal system for industrial waste gas streams. The Linde LoTOx™ solution delivers the highest NOx removal capabilities commercially available, achieving efficiency rates in excess of 95%.
LoTOx has been successfully deployed across a wide range of combustion processes in manufacturing industries such as electric power plant boilers, chemical plants and a variety of exhaust streams, including gas and coal-fired boilers, lead recovery furnaces, stainless steel pickling operations, sulfuric acid regeneration plants, fluidized catalytic cracking (FCC) regenerators and pet coke boilers.
NOx, mostly NO and NO2, is among the major pollutants listed under the EPA's Clean Air Act. In atmospheric sunlight, NOx reacts to form smog, acid rain and ground-level ozone, especially in warm weather causing a variety of health issues. It also accumulates in the atmosphere with other greenhouse gases, contributing to climate change.
"LoTOx is a low-temperature oxidation system that is an extremely effective way of managing harmful emissions," said Peter Studer, program manager - Chemicals & Environment Industry for Linde LLC. "This flexible, end-of-pipe technology can be configured for efficiency levels between 30 percent and 95+ percent."
The Linde system employs ozone to oxidize nitrogen oxides (NOx) to higher oxides of nitrogen such as N2O5, thus eliminating the need to store hazardous chemicals required for traditional abatement processes. "These oxides are not only very soluble but also reactive, so they can be easily removed along with other hazardous pollutants such as mercury using conventional wet or dry scrubbers used in air pollution control equipment," Studer said.
A LoTOx installation consists of an oxygen supply stream, on-site ozone generation equipment, analyzers and controls. Linde can supply a wide range of solutions tailored to individual needs – covering everything from gas supply through to end-to-end turnkey installations. Linde can also run on-site trials with its mobile demonstration unit to establish proof-of-concept, before investing in a full-scale LoTOx system.
