MURRAY HILL, N.J. and NEW PROVIDENCE, N.J., Sept. 16, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Two Linde Healthcare experts will present a paper on the critical elements of installing and maintaining U.S.P. (United States Pharmacopeia) medical oxygen storage and deliver systems at the American Society of Plumbing Engineers Convention and Exposition. The Convention will be held at the Chicago Sheraton Hotel and Towers in Chicago, September 20-24.
Derrick West, program manager of Hospital Services for Linde Healthcare, and Eric McCormick, medical engineer, will provide an overview of typical bulk U.S.P. medical oxygen systems for healthcare facilities. "U.S.P. oxygen, considered a drug delivery system by the FDA, provides critical life support to patients," said West. "As such, there are strict guidelines, design elements, and codes involved with the medical bulk oxygen systems to ensure safe and reliable storage and delivery of oxygen to the healthcare facility and its patients."
Their presentation will provide details on:
- The all-important code requirements (NFPA 99)
- Critical factors in designing and sizing the system
- Location parameters – size of pad, NFPA 55 safety distance requirements, etc.
- Installation, verification and operation qualifications
"We believe attendees at our presentation will come away with an understanding of all the steps involved to ensure installation of a safe and dependable system," McCormick said.
ASPE's Convention and Exposition is designed to showcase innovations in plumbing system design—where plumbing engineers, designers, specifiers, and contractors can learn about the latest plumbing products, services, and design techniques.
