Lincoln Electric's ARC Magazine to Feature Actor Nick Offerman
CLEVELAND, Feb. 8, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- The spring issue of ARC Magazine®, a quarterly publication by Lincoln Electric, will feature a cover story and interview with actor Nick Offerman from the TV series Parks and Recreation.
Craig Coffey, ARC's publisher and Lincoln Electric's manager of marketing communications, explains why the interview with Offerman is a fit for a magazine aimed at welders and metalworkers. "In his book Gumption: Relighting the Torch of Freedom with America's Gutsiest Troublemakers, Offerman advocates for changing the way people think of the trades – including welding – or risk becoming a country that doesn't know how to make and fix things anymore. That sentiment is one that we continually address in the pages of ARC Magazine."
In addition to acting, Offerman hones his craft of choice, woodworking, as the owner of Offerman Woodshop, where he and his team make custom furniture. The actor is self-deprecating when it comes to the subject of welding. "I've learned to weld a few times … I've never done it on my own, and I've never done it for anything but utility. I've fixed some tables. I fixed a bunch of stuff with my uncles when I was a kid. I tried to make a nice piece that they would find pleasing. They said, 'Man, you might want to think about going to college.'"
Offerman adds: "I am an ardent believer in the value of the trades and educating our citizenry in tool skills, so anytime I can help bring attention to the topic, I tend to jump to it."
While arguably the most widely known, Offerman is not the first TV personality to be found in the pages of ARC Magazine. The inaugural issue (spring 2015) featured Jessi Combs of Velocity's The List: 1001 Car Things To Do Before You Die. Subsequent issues have featured Aaron Kaufmann and Richard Rawlings from Discovery Channel's Fast N' Loud, Bryan Fuller of Velocity's Naked Speed and most recently, Freddy Dodge and Dave Turin of Discovery's Gold Rush.
"We've established lasting relationships with celebrities and personalities over a very long period of time," says ARC editor John Bruening. "We're excited to use a vehicle like ARC as a way to inspire and educate welders, whether they are new to the craft or seasoned pros." Visitors to ARCMagazine.pub can sign up for a free subscription to the print version of the magazine. An enhanced, tablet version can also be found in the Lincoln Library App, available through Apple and Android app stores.
