LimeBike introduces e-bikes and e-scooters, marks first two successful months in Europe
Users have logged more than 10,000 rides in just two months
BARCELONA, Spain, Feb. 26, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- On the occasion of Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, LimeBike - the leading smart mobility solution provider is officially announcing the launch of electric scooters, Lime-S, along with the largest deployment of shared electric-assist bikes, Lime-E in Europe. LimeBike is the first company to have a market-ready multi-modal smart fleet. The whole fleet is available in Barcelona for demonstration and testing throughout the event.
The introduction of Lime-E and Lime-S is part of the strategy to transform the company from a bike-sharing to a smart mobility provider that offers multiple personal transportation solutions for smart cities. The company recently raised an additional $70 million as part of its Series B financing round, bringing the total amount of funding to $132 million and providing solid financial backing for further enhancement and roll out of LimeBike's smart fleet.
"Our goal is to lead the future of smart mobility. Our multi-modal smart fleet provides immediate access to an affordable, convenient and healthy means of transportation. We are here to help cities, businesses and universities to solve their first and last mile transportation challenges," says Caen Contee, founding member and VP Marketing, Partnerships, & International Expansion at LimeBike.
Strong results in the first two months of operations in Europe
Since December 2017, LimeBike is available in Frankfurt and Zurich - the two pilot cities on its European expansion course. Despite launching in the midst of winter, LimeBike has already accumulated more than 10,000 rides in the first two months of operation.
"We are encouraged by the warm welcome LimeBike has received in Europe. This is a great start for us as we are entering the peak seasons for bike riding in spring and summer. It is also a springboard for our further investment into Europe which we are planning to announce soon," Contee commented.
LimeBike aims to become an integral part of the European city landscape by cooperating with local communities, colleges and businesses, as well as prioritizing the high quality of its bikes. The majority of active users in Frankfurt and Zurich have come back to use LimeBike again after the first ride. Many use it to cover the first and/or the last mile of their daily commute, indicating that the average Swiss user opts for the bike twice daily, while the German rider is doing one trip a day.
With its first market launch in June 2017, LimeBike is the leading smart bikeshare provider in the U.S., available in 46 markets with 35,000 bikes and growing. It is the first US-based company in the smart bikeshare space to enter the European market.
