LIM College Introduces New Master's Degree in Global Fashion Supply Chain Management
Will meet growing need for professionals with specialized knowledge
NEW YORK, March 4, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- LIM College, which is located in New York City and focused exclusively on the study of business and fashion, has received approval from the New York State Board of Regents to offer a Master of Professional Studies (MPS) degree in Global Fashion Supply Chain Management.
The LIM College MPS in Global Fashion Supply Chain Management is a 30-credit, one-year program that will launch this fall. Designed for professionals seeking to advance into strategic management roles, it is comprised of courses dealing with both the technical and management aspects of the field. Students will also gain firsthand exposure to an actual supply chain network via visits to retailers, shipping ports, and local manufacturers.
The supply chain is the system that moves a product from supplier to consumer. Supply chain management has evolved from a back-office function to a critical component for any organization that produces and/or distributes goods and services.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of logisticians—those who analyze and coordinate an organization's supply chain—is projected to grow 22% from 2012 to 2022, much faster than the average for all occupations. Employment growth will be driven by the important role logistics plays in the transportation of goods in a global economy. The 2013 APICS Supply Chain Council Operations Management Employment Outlook states that the average total compensation for supply chain and operations management professionals with a master's degree is $107,934.
Says LIM College President Elizabeth S. Marcuse, "For fashion companies, and the host of related industries that support them, the necessity of competing in a global marketplace combined with the challenges associated with e-commerce business models have made the inner workings of the supply chain more complex and critical than ever. Companies are faced with the demands of a fast-fashion production cycle, requests for sustainable sourcing solutions, and the challenges of managing a global sourcing network. This translates into an increasing need for professionals with an advanced level of supply chain and logistics knowledge."
Since supply chain management covers every component of the business cycle, from production to product fulfillment, this field offers a broad array of career opportunities across a range of industries, including new roles relating to e-commerce and other technological innovations. Graduates of the MPS in Global Fashion Supply Chain Management will be qualified to fill positions in the areas of operations management, supply chain analytics, procurement, and logistics at companies both within and outside of the fashion world.
According to Dr. Christopher J. Cyphers, LIM College's Provost & Executive Vice President, "The business of fashion has in the last decade alone come to encompass an extraordinarily expansive range of professional occupations. As such, this new program demonstrates LIM College's ongoing commitment to meet the needs of employers in the fashion and related industries. In today's global business environment, professionals with specialized knowledge and expertise are in great demand, so it is imperative that LIM College expand and evolve the scope of advanced degrees available through our Center for Graduate Studies accordingly."
