Liko Smith Hires Blue Water Consulting and Grobbel Environmental To Spearhead Initial Stage of Sugar Loaf Re-Opening
TRAVERSE CITY, Mich., Oct. 3, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- The effort to re-open Sugar Loaf is underway. Owner Liko Smith has executed contracts with two firms to begin a "deep" assessment of the Sugar Loaf property at 4500 Sugar Loaf Mountain rd. in Traverse City, MI. "The opening plan for The RoK is separated into 3 distinct stages titled "Crawl, Walk and Run" says Smith. It's a simple process, but it's not easy".
"The "Crawl" phase is the most critical; it is a deep assessment of the entire site in order to get to bedrock on what is required to restore the sites basic feasibility. The effort involves coordination between the city and our consultants. We will walk "every inch" of the buildings and parcel(s). The Sugar Loaf Resort will be recovered once we get realistic on what the challenges are."
The "Walk" Stage is the approval of the companies new site layouts, construction and improvement plans. The "Run" Stage is the actual physical construction of the site up to the Grand Opening expected in November of 2014. The Site is being converted to The RoK at Sugar Loaf, a 560 Acre Snowboarders Mecca.
"I expect the Crawl and Walk Stages to be the longest. Either way, it's truly getting done," says Smith. "We will open Sugar Loaf in time for Winter 2014."
Blue Water Consulting owned by Dave Drews will be coordinating with Smith on all three stages upon the initial walk-through.
The environmental efforts will be handled by Christpher Grobbel Ph.D of Grobbel Environmental. His company will also submit a Brownfield Plan and TIF Application to allow Smiths investors to recoup the repair expenses through tax rebates once the RoK is open.
Christopher Grobble Ph.D looks forward to the opening date. "As a long term resident of Leelanau County, our community has been waiting expectantly for the economic jewel of our county and local economy to be back up and running ….Between Sugarloaf's ski slopes, Waffle and Awful Awful, the ski hill has "the" best vertical drop in lower Michigan… many of us can't wait for the re-opening of the Sugar Loaf Resort," says Grobble.
