Likewise Kicks Off Two-Week Social Experiment on Lake Union Houseboat
"Bachelor" contestant Taylor Nolan to live off Likewise, community recommendations on dining, movies, TV shows and books, for two weeks
BELLEVUE, Wash., Nov. 2, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Likewise Inc., the app that helps people find great restaurants, movies, TV shows, books and more, today launched a social experiment with former "Bachelor" contestant and podcast host Taylor Nolan. To showcase the power of getting recommendations from friends and people you trust, Nolan is surrendering all decisions on what to eat, read, watch and do to her friends, family and the Likewise community. She moves in to her houseboat on Seattle's Lake Union today and will remain a castaway living off friend recommendations through Friday, Nov. 16.
Nolan, a Seattle native, is a mental health advocate and host of the podcast "Let's Talk About It," in which she discusses mental health issues. She is a reality show TV star and grew up in Seattle. "I am so excited to be able to show off my city like this," said Nolan. "It's going be so amazing."
Likewise selected Nolan following an open casting call in Seattle. The team received hundreds of local applicants and chose its finalists based on their excitement for the experiment and the support of their friends and followers to make sure they will have plenty to do while on board. Nolan stole the show with her passion for Likewise, knowledge about Seattle, and committed following in Seattle and around the nation.
By living her life based on recommendations tailored to her on Likewise, Nolan will demonstrate the power of getting great recommendations from people she knows and trusts. Given the quintessential Seattle houseboat dwelling, what better way to bring all the entertainment than by kayak? Nolan's customized journey will include:
- Dinner delivered by award-winning Tom Douglas partner Eric Tanaka
- In-home visits from personal trainers and yoga instructors
- Books delivered by NPR and Seattle Public Library book reviewer Nancy Pearl
- Surprise Visits during her time as a Seattle area castaway
"At Likewise, we believe that the best recommendations come from people we trust," said Ian Morris, chief executive officer of Likewise. "The Likewise Houseboat will bring this to life by showing how one lucky castaway can live the good life by following the recommendations from their friends, family and experts."
According to Nielsen, 83 percent of people trust the recommendations of friends and family over other channels. At the same time, consumer skepticism of crowdsourced rating sites is reaching a fever pitch, fueled by a steady stream of headlines about questionable ratings from anonymous, unverified and biased sources.
To address these problems, Likewise, which launched in October 2018, takes a different approach by focusing on recommendations from friends and trusted sources rather than anonymous ratings from strangers.
People can share recommendations with Nolan through Friday Nov. 16 via the Likewise app which is available on both iOS and Android. For more information and to follow her staycation, download the Likewise app or visit houseboat.likewise.com.
