MISSISSAUGA, ON, April 9, 2013 /CNW/ - Juno Award winning artist Lights will perform acoustically and speak with students about her work with World Vision during the 30 Hour Famine live cast on April 12. She will be joined by host and former Much Music VJ Sarah Taylor, and a lineup of emerging student talent.
The event will be live casted from 7 - 9 pm EST at www.famine.ca/nightof.
Students across the country will participate in the 30 Hour Famine, by going without something they feel is important for 30 hours, to support life-changing projects around the world. Lights, in her fourth year as a 30 Hour Famine ambassador, will also take part in giving up food for 30 hours along with the students.
Lights recently visited the Philippines and Taylor Sri Lanka, where they saw the impact World Vision programs are having in the lives of children and families, similar to projects supported by youth doing the 30 Hour Famine.
"It's important for us to understand how fortunate we actually are. Because every day there are kids going without the basics" says Lights. "The Famine gives us the chance to feel what it's like for these kids, what it feels like to be hungry. The Famine actually lets us do something to help these kids in need."
Youth can choose to support one of 17 World Vision projects such as emergency nutrition in Sudan, helping at risk youth in Canada, supporting youth fighting injustice and violence in the Dominican Republic and water projects in Mauritania.
This has been a busy year for Lights and Taylor. Lights is releasing Siberia Acoustic, a re-imagined and stripped down version of her gold-selling album, Siberia, on April 30, with a North American tour to follow. Taylor continues to use her influence to highlight social issues that are important to her. Follow them on twitter at @lights and @sarahmaytaylor.
