Lighting Science Group Lights Up Yankee Candle Stores With Ultra-Efficient LED Bulbs
Company's High-Performance and Long-Lasting LED Lights will Result in Significant Cost Savings for Yankee Candle
SATELLITE BEACH, Fla., Feb. 15, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Lighting Science Group's (OTC Bulletin Board: LSCG) high-performance and ultra-efficient LED bulbs are now lighting up Yankee Candle stores all across New England. The ENERGY STAR approved DEFINITY PAR 20, PAR 30, PAR 38 and MR 16 LED bulbs installed in stores are approximately 80% more efficient than the halogen bulbs that they replace and are fully dimmable. Unlike compact fluorescent lamps (or CFLs), the Company's DEFINITY LED bulbs contain no mercury, are completely recyclable, are "instant on," and offer outstanding light quality. Yankee Candle received rebates from National Grid and Western Mass Electric Company through the Mass Save program. Energy efficiency rebates were also received from other electric utility companies throughout New England.
"The new LED lighting from Lighting Science Group is a dramatic improvement in terms of efficiency, longevity and output over what we previously had installed," said Jeff Lubarsky, energy and retail facilities manager of Yankee Candle. "Lighting Science Group's LED bulbs deliver excellent light distribution, brilliant color, optimum performance, and are ultra-efficient in meeting our energy, environmental and design needs."
"The ENERGY STAR approved DEFINITY LED line makes it easy for businesses to save green by buying green—without sacrificing lighting quality," said Rich Weinberg, chairman of Lighting Science Group. "Plus, rebate programs like Mass Save will help drive down the cost of LED lighting further, speed market adoption, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions—a win, win, win energy solution."
To ensure both performance and reliability, the cULus-listed DEFINITY LED line was tested under the rigorous ENERGY STAR Eligibility Criteria, Version 1.1 process by an independent laboratory approved by the U.S. Department of Energy's CALiPER program. To receive the ENERGY STAR label for an integral LED lamp, the DEFINITY bulbs were tested at a third party laboratory under the LM79 standard for overall efficiency, color temperature, color rendering, color spatial uniformity and light emission pattern. Additional testing required for ENERGY STAR approval included: rapid cycle thermal stress testing, in-situ temperature testing, both lumen maintenance and color maintenance testing, and an operational test for 3,000 hours at elevated ambient temperature. ENERGY STAR is the trusted, government-backed symbol that makes it easy for consumers to identify and purchase energy-efficient products that offer savings on energy bills without sacrificing performance, features, and comfort.
