Lighthouse International Commends Whoopi Goldberg's Involvement with the Double Up 4 Vision Tandem Bike Ride/Walk

NEW YORK, Oct. 20, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Lighthouse International, New York's leading non-profit organization dedicated to preserving vision and helping people of all ages overcome the challenges of vision loss, is excited to commend Whoopi Goldberg's involvement with the Double Up 4 Vision Tandem Bike Ride/Walk. Goldberg recently recorded a PSA announcing the event which is currently being aired on radio stations throughout New York City and the tri-state metro region.

On Saturday, October 22nd, more than 500 men and women will come together, many of whom are visually impaired to team up in this unique event hosted by Lighthouse International. The 5K Double Up for Vision Tandem Bike Ride/Walk, which will kick off at 10 a.m. at 135th Street in Upper Riverside Park and end at Pier I (Riverside Park South and 70th Street), will feature over 500 Tandem bicycles each paired with a person who is visually impaired and a sighted person serving as a pilot in front.  The event is being held to raise vision awareness and to alert the public that 80% of vision loss is preventable.  

Goldberg gained much notoriety through her roles in movies such as The Color Purple, Sister Act and Ghost. More recently, you can find Whoopi hosting The View or producing the award winning smash hit Sister Act on Broadway.
