NEW YORK, Sept. 29, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Light Reading (www.lightreading.com), the market-leading online community for the global communications sector, today announced that Julie Muroff, Senior Vice President of Operations, has been named a 'Rising Star' on Folio's inaugural Top Women in Media List.
The list is composed of influential women who are driving the agenda for the media industry and in their companies. Muroff and the other honorees will be celebrated during an awards luncheon on October 1 in New York City.
Muroff is being recognized for her exceptional contributions to innovation and leadership at Light Reading. Muroff is revitalizing Light Reading's Live event business with a series of 12 new events debuting in 2014. Her goal is to increase the profitability of events, boost attendance and modernize the event formats and venues. Most recently, Muroff successfully revived Light Reading's 10th Annual Leading Lights Awards Gala held in June at the award winning Adler Planetarium in Chicago. The event was a huge success, with record-breaking attendance and sponsorships selling out within the first week. In addition, she produced Light Reading's inaugural Big Telecom Event from the ground up, creating inventive sponsorship opportunities and revamping the standard expo format to a demo space with a more modern look and feel. Muroff also partnered with a number of industry associations to attract a wider range of attendees. Light Reading's Big Telecom Event was its largest and most profitable event to date, and the demo floor is on track to triple in size in 2015.
Stephen Saunders, founder and CEO, Light Reading said, "Julie's innovative thinking as well as her hard work and dedication to the Light Reading business is extraordinary. I am thrilled that she has been recognized for an indelible impact in the industry. She is a role model for women aspiring to succeed in the B2B market."
Light Reading supports professional women in business. The company recently launched a 'Women in Telecom' breakfast series. The quarterly series celebrates the influential group of women in telecom and provides a forum for discussion of important industry issues, as well as an informal setting for women in the industry to meet, exchange ideas and network. The next installment in the series will take place November 6, 2014 at the "OSS in the Era of SDN & NFV" event in London (www.lightreading.com/osslon2104).
