LiftMaster® Highlights Garage Safety At NASCAR® Quicken Loans Race For Heroes 500
"Celebrate Summer Safely" Sweepstakes Contest winner announced; Helps bring awareness to "Don't Chance It. Check It.™" Campaign
PHOENIX, Nov. 7, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- LiftMaster®, the nation's leading manufacturer of residential garage door openers, will promote its "Don't Chance It. Check It.™" garage safety campaign at the Phoenix International Raceway on Sunday, November 9 with NASCAR driver Jamie McMurray. LiftMaster is sponsoring the NASCAR driver's car and will run a safety display at the race so that members of the public can learn more about garage safety. LiftMaster will also host the Grand Prize winner of LiftMaster's "Celebrate Summer Safely" Sweepstakes Contest at the race.
LiftMaster's engagement with NASCAR is part of the company's ongoing efforts to educate the public on the importance of monthly garage door opener safety checks.
"Garage safety is important because nearly one out of 15 garage door openers may lack the latest safety features and may not operate properly," says McMurray. "As a father of two small children, I urge all families to conduct garage safety checks to ensure you and your family are protected."
"More than 70 percent of today's homeowners use their attached garage as the main entrance point to their home, relying on the automatic garage door opener for home access every day throughout the year but they often don't know if their garage door opener is working properly," said Bob Markwart, President of LiftMaster, Americas. "By following LiftMaster's 3-Step Safety Check, which only takes a few minutes to complete, homeowners will gain peace of mind, ensuring their home and family are safe."
LiftMaster will spend all of race weekend working to educate NASCAR fans on garage safety. Fans will also be able to collect materials so they can perform the 3-Step Safety Check at home. The 3-Step Safety Check can be performed on any garage door opener manufactured after 1993. Garage door openers that fail any of the three steps below, or were manufactured prior to 1993, may not be up to federal safety standards and should be replaced.
The 3-Step Safety Check is as follows:
- Check the sides of the garage door for properly installed photo eyes (black sensors) mounted no higher than 6 inches off the floor.
- Block the photo eye with an object over 6 inches tall and press the garage door opener's close button. The door should not close.
- Lay a 1.5 inch-high object on the ground in the door's path and press the close button. The door should reverse off this object.
After recording the results, homeowners are encouraged to contact a LiftMaster Certified Safety Dealer to seek guidance on how to keep this high traffic area both safe and secure. For further assistance or to learn how to upgrade a garage door opener, homeowners can visit LiftMaster.com/GarageSafety or call 855.GRG.SAFE to locate a dealer from LiftMaster's network of more than 4,000 professional installers.
