LiftMaster Celebrates National Safety Month: 'Join Us as Champions of Safety'
During June, LiftMaster's educational initiatives and resources drive public awareness of garage and gate safety
ELMHURST, Ill., June 1, 2015 /PRNewswire/ --In honor of National Safety Month, LiftMaster® – the number one manufacturer of professionally installed garage door openers and access solutions – is encouraging homeowners to become Champions of Safety by learning why safety matters and how to check their garage doors, openers and gates to ensure that they are operating properly.
LiftMaster is leading a movement that includes thousands of people nationally, including its dealers, employees and NASCAR driver Kasey Kahne to serve as Champions of Safety at home, in the community and in the workplace.
"As a NASCAR driver, I know how important it is to be safe on the track so it's great having a partner like LiftMaster that also focuses on safety for homeowners and gate operators," Kahne said. "During the month of June, we all can join LiftMaster to help raise awareness for garage and gate safety to ensure we have the safest homes and facilities possible."
To help identify unsafe garage doors and openers, LiftMaster has an easy 3-Step Safety Check. Homeowners are reminded to perform the test on their garage door openers during National Safety Month and throughout the year. LiftMaster recommends conducting the 3-Step Safety Check seasonally when checking other home safety devices like smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. Those with gates should schedule for a safety certifed technician to check that they are operating properly.
"For 70 percent of homeowners, the garage is the main entry to the home," said John Villanueva, vice president of marketing, LiftMaster, Americas. "The 3-Step Safety Check takes less than a minute and provides assurance that the largest moving object in the home is safe."
To perform the 3-Step Safety Check –
- Check the sides of the garage door for properly installed photo eyes (black sensors) mounted no higher than six inches off the floor.
- Block the photo eye with an object over six inches tall and press the garage door opener's close button. The door should not close.
- Lay a 1.5 inch-high object on the ground in the door's path and press the close button. The door should reverse off this object.
If a garage fails any step of the check, a professional garage door dealer should be contacted to resolve the issue. Homeowners can visit www.LiftMaster.com/Locate-a-Dealer or call 855-GRG-SAFE to find a dealer from LiftMaster's network of more than 700 safety-certified professional installers.
