LifeSource Water Helps Bring Clean Water And Sanitation To Villages In Amazon Rainforest
New Water Treatment System To Advance Health Of Villagers For 15-20 Years
PASADENA, Calif., May 10, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- LifeSource Water Systems, Inc. and its nonprofit partner, RainforestFlow.org are currently building a new water treatment system and a 20,000 liter reservoir in the native village of Huacaria located in the Peruvian rainforest. The system will bring clean water directly to 22 family homes and a small school. It is expected to advance the health of the people of Huacaria for 15-20 years into the future.
In 2004, LifeSource founder and past president B.J. Wright, was introduced to Rainforest Flow. He was immediately intrigued by its mission to provide water sanitization and health education to indigenous rainforest cultures in the Peruvian Amazon. Immediately a partnership was born.
In 2005, LifeSource Water Systems began to provide financial and technological resources to Rainforest Flow to help enhance their programs and to extend their services to other villages. This year marks the twelfth year of the partnership and the expansion of the project's initiative. With Rainforest Flow's continual growth, LifeSource has increased their financial contributions to aid expansion. What started as one project in Huacaria has now broadened into two other villages in Peru, the Matisgenka villages of Tayakome and Yomybato. A fourth project is set to launch later in 2017.
Nancy Santullo, founder of Rainforest Flow, made her first trip to the Peruvian Rainforest in 1999. There she found a connection to the people of Huacaria and saw that access to clean water was limited. She has since been working with the indigenous people of this region, introducing them to clean water, dignified sanitation and health education. Once her work in Peru is completed, other programs will expand out to other countries with large rainforest coverage, biological diversity and indigenous populations.
