SAN DIEGO, May 14, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- LifeNet Health, the world's leading provider of regenerative medicine solutions, today announced the opening of a San Diego facility that stands as a Center of Excellence for its life sciences and tissue-engineering programs, as well as a logistical hub for hospital and surgeon clients on the West Coast.
The location in San Diego is strategically situated to place LifeNet Health within a vibrant biomedical research corridor, fueling LifeNet Health's expansion into the field of drug discovery and personalized medicine through its LifeSciences Division. The facility will also house programs for tissue-engineering research and development, focusing on solutions for sports medicine – including osteoarticular therapies – and reconstructive plastic surgery.
"LifeNet Health's unique expertise in tissue and cell recovery allows us to be a global catalyst for pioneering advances in life sciences and translational research," said Rony Thomas, LifeNet Health President and CEO. "Our San Diego presence will not only expand our research capacity, but will also enable important partnerships with clinicians and scientists that will accelerate discoveries and ultimately advance medicine for patients."
The 10,000-square-foot facility includes state-of-the-art laboratories as well as office space and meeting areas for employees, partners and surgeons. It complements the research capabilities of LifeNet Health's Institute of Regenerative Medicine in Virginia Beach, Va., and its satellite laboratory in Durham, NC. It will also serve customers along the West Coast by enhancing access to LifeNet Health's advanced tissue implants. It joins existing distribution facilities in Virginia, Washington state and Austria to give LifeNet Health an unparalleled ability to meet the needs of both clinicians and their patients.
"LifeNet Health's expansion into southern California is another step in our commitment to ensure that patients have access to the healing solutions they need, regardless of geography or time zone," said John Herre, MD, chairman of LifeNet Health's Board of Directors and a cardiologist with Sentara Cardiology Specialists in Norfolk, Va. "Delivering allografts quickly and reliably has become even more vital as LifeNet Health has expanded to serve an ever-growing range of surgical disciplines."
The San Diego facility opening is the latest in a multi-phase investment in infrastructure designed to support the growth of LifeNet Health's regenerative medicine programs in the U.S. and around the world.
