Life Wireless offers cellphone service in Kansas and Wisconsin
Leading Lifeline carrier helps low-income Americans stay connected to family, doctors, employers and emergency service providers
COVINGTON, Ga., April 10, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Life Wireless is now offering subsidized cell phone service to eligible low-income residents in Kansas and Wisconsin.
Life Wireless provides phone service through the federal Lifeline program, which was created by Congress in 1985 to ensure that all Americans have access to quality telephone service and the security and opportunities that it affords.
Subscribers are eligible if they take part in a federal assistance program, such as Medicaid or Food Stamps, or meet income eligibility requirements. In Wisconsin, residents are eligible if they earn up to 135 percent of the federal poverty level. In Kansas, residents are eligible if they earn up to 150 percent of the federal poverty level.
Life Wireless customers receive a basic mobile handset with voicemail, text messaging, call waiting, and other features. Smart phones are not available. Calling plans offer up to 250 minutes a month.
"We're excited at the opportunity to provide our service to families in Kansas and Wisconsin," said Jim Carpenter, a senior vice president with Life Wireless. "Our sales representatives go into the community and reach those who are most in need of telephone services, fulfilling the mission of the Lifeline program."
More than 300,000 people in Kansas and about 700,000 people in Wisconsin are living below the poverty level. Life Wireless helps low-income individuals stay in touch with loved ones, medical providers, potential employers, and emergency service providers.
"A cellphone is no longer a luxury item, it's a necessity," said Carpenter.
Life Wireless has developed industry-leading practices designed to preserve the integrity of the Lifeline program. Life Wireless performs multiple checks on each potential customer to verify that they qualify for the Lifeline program. All Life Wireless sales representatives receive extensive training and oversight to ensure that company policies are upheld.
