Life Skills Centers Graduates Nearly 400 High School Students in January

AKRON, Ohio, March 6, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Life Skills Centers is proud to announce that they have recently graduated 380 students this January.  Life Skills Centers are tuition-free community schools, with 25 locations across four states. These community schools provide one-on-one attention and flexible scheduling for high school students, ages 16-21 years old, looking to receive their high school diploma and a second chance.

Life Skills Centers graduates received a state recognized high school diploma, which will open the doors to new job and educational opportunities. The students were able to walk across the stage at the Life Skills graduation ceremony that is held twice each year, in January and in June. The ceremonies were held in local venues, where faculty, staff, students, and families were welcome and encouraged to attend. During the ceremony, the attendees listened to uplifting speeches from reputable figures in their community. Some of these speakers included Dan Flowers, the President & CEO of the Akron/Canton Foodbank and Glenn Robinson, former NFL player.

One school in particular, the Life Skills Center of Dayton, is celebrating the fact that they graduated 50 students alone this winter. This is the second highest number of graduates in the history of the center. "These 50 graduates are 50 young men and women that nobody ever thought would do it. Families, guardians, and the students themselves thought obtaining a high school diploma was not an option - that's why they came to Life Skills," says Life Skills Center of Dayton Administrator, James Brown. Brown adds, "The dedicated faculty and teaching staff gave these students a pencil, the students will use that pencil to check the box next to the word 'Graduate'. This check box will appear on every application from here on out, and our students can check it with pride."
