WASHINGTON, Sept. 22, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Life Reimagined Institute (LRI), a division of AARP, announces the creation of a fellowship program intended to attract a diverse group of innovative, social entrepreneurs bent on blazing new trails. Named in honor of AARP's Immediate Past Chairman and CEO, A. Barry Rand, the Rand Fellows Program seeks a crop of budding thought leaders who will be charged with developing groundbreaking projects centered on next-stage innovations and transitions at the personal and organizational levels.
Applications are being sought from talented, diverse individuals from academia (graduate students, post-docs, scholars, researchers, practitioners and others). Nominations and applications are also strongly encouraged from business, industry NGO's, nonprofits and associations. Applicants are welcomed from all fields without restriction to the academic specialization or career plans of the nominated individual.
The application deadline is October 5, 2015. Chosen fellows will be awarded a $20,000 research stipend, plus up to $5,000 for travel and expenses. Applications for the Rand Fellows can be found at www.lifereimagined.org/rand.
The Rand Fellows inaugural theme is "pivoting with purpose." This year, in collaboration with the Life Reimagined Institute's thought leaders, Rand Fellows will be asked to contemplate and design for the following realities:
- How can individuals connect their motivations to their goals, thus creating and executing a meaningful plan of action?
- What tools and/or ideas do individuals need to lower the barriers to breakthrough thinking and concrete actions to reach their goals?
- What guideposts, along the path of decision-making, can individuals use to pivot to innovation and change?
By pivot we mean developing ideas and models that help define perceived effectiveness in driving innovation and acceptance of change, to the point of productive realization and action. Note that pivoting requires a comfort with moving in a totally new direction to achieve the goals one seeks.
