Library Group Presents Jack Harned With Its Michael Kollins Award
DETROIT, June 25, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The National Automotive History Collection (NAHC) has honored Jack Harned with its Michael Kollins Lifetime Achievement Award for 2014.
The NAHC's highest honor, the award commemorates the life of Michael J. Kollins, a noted automotive author and historian affiliated with the Society of Automotive Historians, the Society of Automotive Engineers and the NAHC.
"We are extremely pleased to recognize Jack for his dedication and many contributions to our long-standing efforts to support and promote the NAHC," said Dr. Charles K. Hyde, chairman of the Friends of NAHC Board of Trustees, which is responsible for the award's selection process.
Harned has served on the NAHC board since 1996 and is only the fifth person to receive the Kollins award. A senior partner and co-founder of AutoCom Associates, a public relations firm in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, he also is a member of the Public Relations Society of America's Detroit Chapter Hall of Fame.
Prior to joining AutoCom in 1995, he had responsibilities for strategic management communications at General Motors' Detroit headquarters. He previously managed GM's international public relations programs based in Detroit and European public relations based in London and Brussels. Before starting his business career at GM, he worked as a daily newspaper reporter in Madison, Wisconsin, and served as press secretary to former U.S. Senator William Proxmire in Washington, D.C.
The National Automotive History Collection is the world's largest collection of literature, photographs and historic documentation about cars and trucks and the people and companies that produce them. A unit of the Detroit Public Library, the NAHC is open to the public and represents a treasure trove of information for automotive collectors, authors, journalists, historians and enthusiasts.
