"At Liberty Tire Recycling, we are excited that our crumb rubber will offer two esteemed sports teams in Vancouver a safe, environmentally friendly and economical sports field on which to play," said Jeff Kendall, CEO of Liberty Tire. "Athletic fields made with crumb rubber offer many advantages over grass fields. Synthetic turf does not need to be watered like grass turf and also does not require the use of harmful pesticides."
More than 346,000 pounds of crumb rubber were used in the creation of the turf field at Empire Fields Stadium, which equates to more than 22,450 recycled scrap tires.
Crumb rubber is a finely ground rubber produced from scrap tires. It serves as a safe, environmentally friendly surface material that enhances the performance of a variety of sports surfaces, providing infill for sports fields, and paving for running tracks and equestrian surfaces. Crumb rubber adds cushioning and springiness to protect athletes, and surfaces made from crumb rubber dry quickly, drain excess moisture, reduce dust and mud, and minimize freezing.
Liberty Tire Recycling reclaims more than 110 million tires each year at 29 locations throughout the U.S. and Canada, creating about 1.5 billion pounds of recycled rubber for smart, sustainable products. For more information about Liberty Tire Recycling, visit www.libertytire.com.
