FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla., May 26, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Liberty Power, the nation's largest owner-operated retail electricity provider, together with the United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (USHCC) Foundation are proud to announce the 5th Annual Bright Horizons Scholarship.
The Bright Horizons Scholarship is an opportunity for college students pursuing degrees in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) with an interest in the fields of energy or the environment.
"Our Bright Horizons Scholarship Program is an extremely rewarding experience," stated David Hernandez, co-founder and CEO of Liberty Power. "It's inspiring to see the academic caliber, talent and ambition of these students from across the nation – with different backgrounds, cultures and life experiences – all sharing a similar passion for energy and sustainability. We believe the continued expansion of retail energy choice will ensure a brighter horizon for these STEM students," Hernandez added.
Since its inception, the Bright Horizons Scholarship has awarded a total of $80,000 to 13 college students. This year, the program will award a total of $20,000 to 3 scholarship winners in values of $10,000, $6,000, and $4,000. Winners of the 2017 Bright Horizons Scholarship will be announced at the USHCC National Convention on October 1-3 in Dallas, Texas.
"The Bright Horizons Scholarship is a great initiative that recognizes STEM students for their accomplishments and awards our future leaders with the financial support to further their education," stated Nina Vaca, USHCC Foundation Chairman. "We are pleased to support such a valuable endeavor."
Students who are currently studying STEM at an accredited two or four-year university with an interest in the fields of energy or the environment are encouraged to apply by July 30, 2017.
