PLANO, Texas, Nov. 29, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Liberty Mutual Insurance Chairman and CEO David H. Long officially opened the company's one million square foot office complex in Plano, Texas, today with a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by Texas Governor Greg Abbott and City of Plano Mayor Harry LaRosiliere.
The 19-story campus will offer employee amenities such as an on-site medical center with physical therapy services, full-service cafeteria, gourmet coffee bar, two large conference centers, two rooftop gardens, and over 4,500 covered parking spaces. The campus will be home to nearly 5,000 employees who are scheduled to start moving in January 2018.
Mr. Long also announced during the ceremony Liberty's donation of funding for a universally-accessible playground to be built on a two-acre plot of land in Windhaven Meadows Park. This playground, to be named Liberty Park, is the second universally-accessible facility funded by Liberty Mutual and will bring to Plano the same inclusive design elements that are in the recently-built Boston playground. The space will have over 20,000 square feet of dedicated accessible play areas with dozens of pieces of play equipment including 1,800 square feet of water play features, more than 50 new shade trees, synthetic turf and café tables.
"We are excited to open the doors of our newest office today here in Legacy West," said Mr. Long. "This ceremony marks the culmination of two years of hard work and collaboration on the part of many people. I want to personally thank Governor Abbott, Mayor LaRosiliere and their teams for helping make this project a success. We look forward to our Plano campus helping us grow our business globally and strengthen both our philanthropic ties and the depth and quality of our talent."
"Today is another banner day for the city of Plano and the entire state of Texas thanks to Liberty Mutual's new 5,000-employee facility," said Governor Abbott. "Our economy is truly the envy of the nation because of companies like Liberty Mutual that are investing big in Texas. I want to thank Liberty Mutual for being a part of Texas' economic success story, and I look forward to their continued growth and partnership with the state."
In lieu of the typical ceremony commemoration gift for each of the 200 guests, Liberty Mutual has instead donated the cost of each gift multiplied by the number of guests to the North Texas Food Bank. This donation will help the North Texas Food Bank deliver 12,000 nutritious meals this holiday season and is in addition to the $2 million in grants Liberty has donated in the local Dallas and Plano area in the past two years.
"Liberty Mutual's ribbon cutting ceremony has long been anticipated. The entire city is thrilled to have a Fortune 100 company join our community and add 5,000 new jobs," said Mayor LaRosiliere. "We welcome our new community-minded partner to Plano! Through expression of their corporate values, they have already made a significant difference in the lives of our citizens."
The design and construction of the Plano campus followed Liberty Mutual's strategy of implementing operations best practices designed to drive down overall energy consumption across its real estate portfolio. During each aspect of the design and construction of the Plano campus, Liberty used sustainable or green resources and materials as well as incorporated energy-efficiency and water-conservation methods. The building will continue employing these same methods in its operations through elements such as an open-floor plan designed to disburse natural light throughout every level while being 20 percent more energy efficient than the typical modern office. Once completed, the Plano campus will meet LEED Gold requirements and be Liberty Mutual's eighth LEED-certified building.
