DALLAS, July 1, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Liberty Institute issued the following statement in response to the Obama administration's final rules, just released, regarding the implementation of the HHS Mandate for religious organizations. Announced late last week, the final HHS Mandate rules force most religious organizations to violate their religious beliefs and adopt the beliefs of the Obama administration about the funding of abortifacient drugs and contraceptives—simply because these organizations do not meet the government's narrow definition of "religious employer."

"No American should be punished by his or her government for simply living life as a person of faith in public. The 'new' HHS eligibility guidelines reflect an attitude of 'business as usual' for the Obama administration," said Liberty Institute President and CEO Kelly Shackelford. "Is it too much to ask our government to allow ALL Americans to conduct their business—whether for-profit or nonprofit—according to their faith and values? Americans should be outraged by a government that would dictate to a religious ministry or business what it can and cannot believe. That is not religious liberty, nor is it the American way. Liberty Institute is prepared to defend – and will defend – Americans whose religious liberty is violated by their own government."
