Leviton Introduces New Line of Extra-Heavy Duty Industrial and Hospital Grade GFCI Receptacles
MELVILLE, N.Y., June 16, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Leviton today introduced the new line of SmartlockPro® Extra-Heavy Duty Industrial and Hospital Grade Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) Receptacles. The new devices comply with the new revision to the Underwriters Laboratories (UL) Standard 943 that requires self-testing functionality for all newly manufactured devices after June 29, 2015.
The new Extra-Heavy Duty Industrial and Hospital-Grade GFCIs are engineered to withstand the harshest environments, as evident in their new construction features, including a durable wraparound strap for superior support in abusive environments and an impact-resistant PBT (Polybutylene Terephthalate) face cover that protects the device from harsh chemicals. Additionally, safety and efficiency features have been built in for added protection, including patented line terminal clamps initially held open to expedite first time wiring and removable safety covers on feed through terminals. Designed with the installer in mind, the devices include features that reduce the chance of miswire and provide dependable and secure connections. In addition to these safety features, Leviton's SmartlockPro® Self-Test GFCIs also have the slimmest GFCI profile on the market, allowing for easier installation in wallboxes.
"As a leader in GFCI technology, we are pleased to introduce the industry's most robust, feature-rich Extra-Heavy Duty GFCI Receptacles to our line of SmartlockPro® devices," said Tony Pulsonetti, Senior Product Manager for Leviton's Commercial and Industrial Business Unit. "We've engineered this new line of GFCIs to exceed all standards pertaining to GFCI devices, truly making Leviton the smart choice when it comes to personnel protection."
In addition to the new construction features, the Extra-Heavy Duty Industrial and Hospital Grades GFCIs automatically test itself to confirm that protected power is available. If the test detects any condition that would indicate GFCI protection might be compromised, a visual indicator provides an alert. The devices feature a dual function indicator light that provides simple, intuitive feedback on power and protection status as well as correct wiring status.
The breadth of the line includes Extra-Heavy Duty Industrial and Hospital Grades in both screw terminal and Lev-Lok® (modular wiring device) configurations. The Extra Heavy Duty Industrial line includes Weather-Resistant, Leaded, Isolated Ground and Pilot Light Tamper-Resistant versions, while the Hospital Grade line includes configurations in Tamper/Non-tamper Resistant, NAFTA complaint, Lev-Lok®, Weather-Resistant and Duplex Guidelight options.
