CARNEGIE, Pa., July 8, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Current temps in the region don't necessarily bring to mind images of Christmas trees and snowmen, but those who work for The Salvation Army of Western PA are already thinking about the upcoming holidays. No one wants that holiday picture to include sad faces on Christmas morning. That's why Levin Furniture and Levin Mattress stores have decided to help The Salvation Army's Treasures for Children program get a head start on meeting the needs for their annual toy distribution.
The Salvation Army depends upon the kindness and generosity of the community to make Treasures for Children the success that it is each year. Beginning tomorrow, shoppers at all Levin Furniture and Levin Mattress store locations, 15 in total, can get involved by picking up a Christmas in July tag from the store's display. Each tag includes a child's age, gender and gift suggestions. A random assortment of ages and genders based on the anticipated need for the upcoming Christmas Season have been provided to each store location. However, toy donations do not need to be accompanied by tags. Toys for children ages birth to up to and including age 13 can be dropped off at all Western Pennsylvania Levin locations through July 28th. Those preferring to donate financially can do so by dropping a donation in The Salvation Army's familiar red kettles, also on site at all Levin locations throughout the duration of this campaign. All financial donations will be put towards the Treasures for Children program in the store's local community.
"After having such an amazing experience as a sponsor for The Salvation Army's Treasures for Children program last Christmas, we were so inspired that we wanted to help even more this year", said Laurie Scardina, Director of Sales at Levin. Laurie continued: "Levin Furniture and Levin Mattress strive to make a positive impact in the communities in which we do business, and partnering with The Salvation Army is a wonderful way to do just that. We hope the community supports our efforts in a big way so that no child is without a present under the tree this Christmas."
Salvation Army centers throughout Allegheny County, as well those in Canonsburg, Greensburg, Indiana, Mount Pleasant and Washington will receive funds and toys from this effort to distribute to the needy in their communities this Christmas. Annually, The Salvation Army distributes approximately 120,000 toys throughout Western Pennsylvania, bringing joy and hope to thousands of families.
