SEATTLE, Sept. 22, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Level 11 was pleased to participate in the opening celebration at the Global Innovation Exchange (GIX) on September 14 as contributors to the new state-of-the-art educational facility. GIX opened the doors to its Bellevue facility—the newly named "Steve Ballmer Building" in honor of the former Microsoft CEO—with a ceremony that included speeches and endorsements from Washington Governor Jay Inslee; University of Washington President Ana Mari Cauce; Tsinghua University President Qiu Yong; Microsoft President Brad Smith; Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, China Consul General Luo Linquan; and Vikram Jandhyala, co-executive director of GIX and vice president for innovation strategy at the UW.
Level 11 contributed to the institute by creating the Network Wall with custom-built software, functionality, content curation in collaboration with Bora Architects and GIX leadership. Bora Architects of Portland, Oregon initially imagined the Network Wall in their design of the GIX facility; Level 11 brought it to life.
"From the very beginning we conceived of the project as an intersection between very high-level aspirations—including design and academic goals—with very real-world constraints," Amy Donohue of Bora Architects said of the project.
Level 11 is known for their groundbreaking work in the areas of smart spaces and connected devices across multiple clients and platforms.
"GIX, in collaboration with Bora, is the first of many smart space projects that Level 11 is developing with architecture firms around the world to create digitally experiential spaces that complement the built space that houses them," Mark Hadland, CEO of Level 11, said.
The Network Wall is an interactive, multi-screen installation displayed prominently on the first floor of the new GIX facility. The Network Wall plays large-scale video, cycles through announcements and recognition of partners, and is multi-touch enabled. Anyone can approach the Wall to learn more about partners, events, stories and projects at GIX through the custom content management system designed and created by Level 11. This type of fully customizable software is powered by the proprietary communication platform, comunik8, from Level 11.
The opening celebration also included introduction of the first two student cohorts to begin classes at GIX this fall and the announcement of new academic and corporate memberships both national and international.
