WASHINGTON, Sept. 7, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The National Association of Letter Carriers, a proud sponsor of the Muscular Dystrophy Association since 1952, will hold its second annual "Fill the Satchel for MDA" event on Sunday, Sept. 9, a fundraiser to benefit the MDA.

Letter carriers will be stationed at various locations around the country on Sunday, in uniform and with their postal satchels, so motorists, pedestrians and shoppers can give their dollars and change to help letter carriers support the MDA and its important work.
The MDA is the lone official charity of the National Association of Letter Carriers. America's letter carriers have helped lead the search for a cure for neuromuscular diseases for 60 years. The NALC was the first national sponsor of the MDA, and has collected more than $20 million in the last 15 years alone to finance research and provide care and services for children and adults affected by any of the more than 40 muscular dystrophy diseases covered by MDA's comprehensive medical services and research programs. MDA's programs are funded almost entirely by voluntary contributions from individuals and organizations.
NALC's local branches are honored annually during the Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon over the Labor Day weekend for their efforts.
