Les Grandes Dames celebrates 19th year at BallenIsles
PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla., Jan. 23, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- The 19th annual Les Grandes Dames International Senior Women's Tennis Tournament presented by Tail Activewear, celebrated 5 days of action-packed matches at BallenIsles Country Club's state-of-the-art Sports Complex.

"This tournament that has come to exemplify a legacy for the sport of tennis and we were pleased to see more than 150 players from around the country and abroad including Canada, and Denmark as well as 16 BallenIsles members compete in this year's event," said BallenIsles GM Derrick Barnett.
The tournament which brought together some of the country's best senior women tennis players in the 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s, and 80s Divisions, saw a few upsets in both singles and doubles.
#1 seed Katerina Stanford lost in the 30s final to #2 seed Evgenia Dockter who also took the 30 doubles title along with Angela Simon from Atlanta. The 40s division saw some great tennis but it was a sweep for Angela Simon over Trish Riddell of Maitland, Fl.
In the 40s doubles, Trish Riddell teamed with 50s champion Caroline Nichols of California to take the title. Nichols played strong steady tennis to take out the #1 seed in the 50 singles by beating Marianna Hollman of North Carolina, 6-3,6-2. Hollman came back with partner Jarilyn Joseph to take the doubles title over local player Susie Brown from Delray Beach and partner Marianne Caplan of Pennsylvania.
The 60s singles winner was a newcomer to the Les Grandes Dames winners circle as #2 seed Wendy McColskey of North Carolina defeated surprise finalist #3 seed Maragret Machoian of Maryland. McColskey scored a second victory with her partner Cindy Babb from South Carolina with a win over BallenIsles Tennis Director Trish Faulkner and her partner from California and the 70s singles winner, Charleen Hillebrand.
The 70s doubles was won by #1 seed Grace Woo and Susanne Clark and th e 80 singles was won by Rosemarie Asch from Canada and the 80s doubles by local player from Wellington Diane Hoffman and her partner Jane Lutz.
