About LEONA W. AYERS, M.D.
Dr. Ayers has over 30 years experience in the education field and is currently a Professor at The Ohio State University in the Department of Pathology, College of Health Sciences in Columbus, Ohio. She is a board certified Pathologist with special expertise in infectious disease pathology and research interest in HIV/AIDS related cancers. Her clinical practice is in Transfusion Medicine and research grants are from the National Cancer Institute (NCI/NIH) in support of work in the US and in sub-Saharan Africa regarding translational research and capacity building in the pathology of HIV/AIDS. Dr. Ayers was honored as an Outstanding Microbiologist in 1982 and was awarded The Earline Kutscher Memorial Lectureship in 1991. She is affiliated with I.S.B.E.R. Dr. Ayers has published over 90 journal articles. She received her B.S. in Zoology in 1962 from Duke University and her M.D. in 1967 from Duke University School of Medicine.
