Lend Lease Plays Proud Role in Construction of the National September 11 Memorial & Museum
NEW YORK, Sept. 13, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Lend Lease, one of the largest construction management firms in the world with a significant presence in New York City, is honored to be the general contractor for the National September 11 Memorial & Museum project at the World Trade Center site in New York City. The Memorial part of the structure opened September 11th in commemoration of the 10th anniversary of 9/11. The Museum will open, as scheduled, in 2012.
The Memorial features two reflecting pools, each nearly an acre in size that sit in the footprints of the former Twin Towers. It also includes the largest manmade waterfall in North America and more than 400 swamp white oak trees that envelop the pools. The names of the nearly 3,000 people who lost their lives on 9/11 and those who perished in the World Trade Center bombing in 1993 are engraved on bronze panels surrounding the pools.
Through its legacy Bovis Lend Lease business, Lend Lease was one of the first responders after the attacks of September 11, 2001 and is honored to be there in helping to create this important Landmark.
"Lend Lease is extremely honored and humbled to have been chosen to build the National September 11 Memorial & Museum. We have been on site at Ground Zero since day one – 9/11/01," said Bob McNamara, CEO of Lend Lease Americas. "We are thankful to our project team, some of whom were on site that terrible day. They have poured their hearts and sweat into this project. The remarkable talents and unwavering dedication of these men and women of Lend Lease have made this iconic memorial a reality," said McNamara.
With a long, proud history in New York City since 1979, Lend Lease has successfully partnered on hundreds of high-profile, highly complex projects in the City, including Mount Sinai Medical Center, Citi Field, Gramercy Park Hotel and Annex, New York-Presbyterian Hospital, Time Warner Center, and the restoration and renovation of the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island and Grand Central Terminal.
