Lend Lease Awarded State-of-the-Art Healthcare Center by Department of Veterans Affairs
NEW YORK, July 31, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Lend Lease, one of the world's largest social infrastructure providers, has been selected by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to design, build, and manage a new VA Healthcare Center in Kernersville, North Carolina. The 280,000 net usable square feet (NUSF), four-story healthcare center with more than 1,900 parking spaces, will provide primary and mental healthcare to Veterans. Services will include dental, diagnostic, laboratory, pathology, radiology, as well as other ancillary services.
"Lend Lease is honored to be awarded the opportunity to design, build, and manage this project for our country's heroes", said Gary Buechler, Lend Lease Development Inc., Managing Director. "As a national leader in healthcare development, we have the experience and expertise to deliver a world class facility for VA, and I am extremely proud to know that Lend Lease will create the best healthcare facility possible for our nation's Veterans".
The healthcare center is designed by Perkins Eastman, a leading international planning, design, and consulting firm with a focus on designing healthcare facilities. Perkins Eastman has incorporated many sustainable design features to the healthcare center, and the center is designing to LEED Gold status upon project completion. The project is scheduled to be completed in the fall of 2015.
The healthcare center, which will treat an estimated 34,000 veterans annually, will be located in the Piedmont Triad metro area. This area encompasses the cities of Greensboro, High Point, and Winston-Salem, which is home to more than 150,000 Veterans and is the largest concentration of Veterans in the state of North Carolina. The Kernersville site was chosen for its centralized location and convenience of access for the greatest number of Veterans.
"The new facility will ensure that North Carolina's Veterans continue to have world-class medical care that they've earned through their service to our Nation," said VA Mid-Atlantic Healthcare Network Director Daniel F. Hoffman. "The facility will be equipped with the finest diagnostic capabilities and will be designed to be maximally Veteran centric".
