RESTON, Va., Feb. 2, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Leidos (NYSE: LDOS), a health, national security and engineering solutions company, has pledged to sponsor nationwide American Diabetes Association's Tour de Cure® rides throughout 2015. The continued focus builds on the company's successful 2014 campaign that raised thousands of dollars for the Association.
Diabetes has reached epidemic proportions, with nearly 30 million children and adults currently diagnosed and hoping for a cure. The Association's Tour de Cure is a series of cycling events held nationwide to raise awareness and funds to prevent and cure diabetes, and to improve the lives of all people impacted by the disease. Tour de Cure rides will be held in more than 80 cities this year, with events running from March through November. Leidos has registered as a National team and established a fundraising goal of $100,000 for the 2015 Tour de Cure.
"Providing solutions to the nation's healthcare challenges is a core aspect of Leidos' business strategy," said Leidos Health and Engineering Sector President Mike Pasqua. "Diabetes is a disease that impacts millions of people every day, and we're incredibly proud to participate in events that are actively working to prevent and cure diabetes."
"Recent estimates project that as many as one in three American adults will have diabetes in 2050 unless we take steps to Stop Diabetes," said Greg Elfers, Chief Field Development Officer, American Diabetes Association. "The American Diabetes Association's Tour de Cure can help change that future. Individuals and teams composed of co-workers, family and friends take the ride of their life to help raise funds that are critical to the fight to Stop Diabetes."
