RESTON, Va., June 19, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Leidos [NYSE: LDOS], a national security, health and engineering solutions company, signed a Statement of Support for the Guard and Reserve in a ceremony with the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR). The ceremony, held at Leidos Headquarters in Reston, Va., was a joint event between ESGR and Leidos' Military Veteran Operation Program (Operation MVP).
In signing the statement of support, Leidos pledged to fully recognize, honor and enforce the Uniformed Services Employment and Re-Employment Rights Act (USERRA); that managers and supervisors will have the tools they need to effectively manage employees who serve in the Guard and Reserve; to appreciate the values, leadership and unique skills service members bring to the workforce and encourage opportunities to hire Guardsmen, Reservists and Veterans; and to recognize and support our country's service members and their families in peace, in crises and in war.
"Through Operation MVP, Leidos partners with military transition centers, military associations and veteran organizations in an effort to both identify transitioning veterans for placement and provide job seeking best practices back to the veteran community," said Chairman and CEO, John Jumper. "We are honored to formally acknowledge our support to veteran recruiting, hiring and employment practices with ESGR."
The ESGR, an office of the Department of Defense, seeks to foster a culture in which all employers support and value the employment and military service of members of the National Guard and Reserve in the United States. ESGR facilitates and promotes a cooperative culture of employer support for National Guard and Reserve service by developing and advocating mutually beneficial initiatives, recognizing outstanding employer support, increasing awareness of applicable laws and policies, resolving potential conflicts between employers and their service members and acting as the employers' principal advocate within DoD.
"Supportive employers like Leidos are critical to maintaining the readiness and strength of the nation's Guard and Reserve units and allow Guardsmen and Reservists the opportunity to serve our country more effectively and with greater peace of mind," said Principal Deputy Director of Family and Employer Programs and Policy at the Department of Defense, M. Alex Baird. "By signing this Statement of Support, Leidos sends a clear message it stands committed to its military employees and recognizes the integrity, global perspective and proven leadership they bring to the workplace."
