RESTON, Va., May 28, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Leidos [NYSE: LDOS], a national security, health and engineering solutions company, was awarded as a prime by the U.S. Air Force to provide research, development, testing and evaluation for homeland defense and security technical area tasks to the Department of Defense (DoD) community of interest. The cost-plus-fixed-fee, firm-fixed-price, multiple-award, indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract has a one-year base period of performance, four one-year options and a total value of approximately $900 million if all options are exercised. Leidos is one of 12 contractors eligible to compete for task orders under the contract.
The DOD Information Analysis Centers (IACs), administered by the Defense Technical Information Center, operate a portfolio of task order contracts for technical research and analysis. Under the contract, Leidos will provide research, development, test and evaluation, and advisory and assistance services related to research and development efforts within the chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear defense, homeland defense and security, critical infrastructure protection, weapons of mass destruction, biometrics, medical, cultural studies and alternative energy focus areas.
"We look forward to providing our domain expertise and our wide breadth of technical offerings to support the DOD IACs in advancing the solutions for homeland defense and security," said Leidos Operations Manager David Radcliffe.
The contract scope aligns with the DOD Research and Engineering's strategic guiding imperatives which include the ability to mitigate new and emerging adversary threats that could degrade U.S. (and allied) capabilities, affordably enable new or extended capabilities in existing military systems and develop technology surprise through science and engineering applications to military problems.
"With the breadth of our technical capabilities combined with the ability to manage large, complex contracts, Leidos is proud to provide continued support in the defense research and engineering communities with advanced technology for critical missions," said Leidos Group President Sam Gordy.
