NEW LONDON, Conn., Feb. 1, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Legrand, North America today showed its proud support of veterans by announcing that its Data Communications division has donated $85,000 to the Building Homes for Heroes organization, a nonprofit that builds or modifies homes for wounded veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces.
The Data Communications donation comes from a fundraiser held during the division's global sales conference. Data Communications team members joined numerous Legrand partners – including Superior Essex – in pledging individual donations, which totaled more than $42,000. Legrand and Superior Essex then matched those individual donations dollar-for-dollar, bringing the total support to $85,000.
"We're really proud of the way the Data Communications team stepped up and showed their support for our veterans, and for the wonderful work Building Homes for Heroes is doing on behalf of those members of the U.S. Armed Forces who return home with serious injuries," said Paul Finnegan, executive vice president of sales at the Data Communications Division of Legrand. "We hope the collective efforts of Legrand team members will help veterans transition back to civilian life, as well as demonstrate our deep gratitude for their service to our country."
Finnegan payed special tribute to U.S. Air Force Lieutenant Colonel Melchizedek "Kato" Martinez, who was a guest of Legrand at the event and was accompanied by his daughter. Tragedy struck the Martinez family in March 2016 when they were caught in the blast of two suicide bombers in the Brussels Airport in Belgium, killing Lieutenant Colonel Martinez's wife and severely injuring him and each of his four children. The Martinez family were gifted a home in San Antonio, Texas last year through Building Homes for Heroes.
In addition to its monetary contribution, Legrand will donate home automation and electrical solutions designed to make life easier for wounded veterans. In two years, Legrand has raised $249,450 for Building Homes for Heroes as part of Legrand's Better Communities initiative, which is tasked with enhancing community and employee welfare through programs that help people enjoy healthier, more productive, and more rewarding lives.
"Legrand is committed to transforming and rebuilding lives by supporting this noble organization and its efforts to provide custom-made homes — mortgage-free — to veterans and their families," said Finnegan. "The collective contributions from the Legrand team are an expression of Legrand's proud support for our nation's Armed Forces veterans."
