Meaning "to lead oneself," Odegeo allows consumers themselves to actively "weigh" the relative importance of a broad range of factors prior to ever hitting the enter button. Consumers can conduct a single search that includes multiple factors all at once. Consumers can specify in great detail exactly what he or she wants, and Odegeo will produce a ranked list of products specifically tailored to their unique desires. This applies to any and all products: autos, televisions, cameras, art or real estate.
"Odegeo will not only help consumers quickly find exactly the item they want, but it allows for surprises because of the way a consumer identifies different priorities," says William Paul Wanker, president of Legit Services Corporation and inventor of Odegeo. "This brings to fruition the true promise of the Internet -- open and transparent data that empowers consumer choice, generating the kind of trust and accountability that everyone has long desired."
How will it work for you? Say you are searching for a car. You want the lowest price possible, but there are other considerations. You are interested in a Toyota, but would consider a Ford or Chevrolet if you could get better options at a good price. You prefer the colors of black and silver over white or blue, and so on.
Using Odegeo, you actively slide weight bars to register the "relative" importance of preferences. If car brand is more important than color, you might slide the brand weight halfway (50%) and the color weight one-third of the way (30%), with screens opening for more detailed options. When you finally hit "enter," Odegeo immediately produces a list of ranked results from eBay that, based on these factors, is personalized to your requirements.
Pop-up screens allow consumers to examine results in a specific category, encouraging detailed comparisons of each factor against the overall ranked results. Seller and product information is also provided to help you make your purchase. And you never have to leave the page.
Wanker and his team worked with the eBay Developers Program, which provides independent developers a platform for creating innovative tools that meet the diverse needs of eBay buyers and sellers, making it easier and faster to trade within the eBay marketplace. Odegeo has been approved by eBay for compatibility and use by its consumers.
