Legal Sea Foods Jumps Back Into Fishy Election Year
CEO's 'Berkowitz for President' Parody Ad Campaign Hands it to Trump and Hillary as the Political Conventions Begin
BOSTON, July 18, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Capitalizing on the Republican and Democratic Conventions, Legal Sea Foods is set to air a new television ad campaign that offers its fishy take on the presidential election, including one ad that revisits the "shrimpy hands" debate.
The new campaign, which begins airing this week, is a continuation of Legal's marketing campaign that debuted on Super Tuesday in support of the (faux) presidential bid of its president and CEO Roger Berkowitz, who humorously announced his candidacy and weighed in on a number of hot-button issues from a seafood restaurant's perspective.
The latest parody ad campaign will include TV and print executions to run throughout Massachusetts, the home of Legal Sea Foods, a 60-year old, Boston-based restaurant group. Each "Berkowitz for President" ad concludes with #feeltheberk.
One spot, entitled "Hands," begins with the Republican Party's presumptive nominee holding up his normal-size hands while the voiceover intones, "Some candidates argue about the size of their hands. Not Roger Berkowitz." Legal's president follows this up with an FDR-esque message: "I can assure you, it's not the size of your hands that are important, but rather the size of your shrimp."

"I would hope people, and especially the other two candidates, view these ads in the spirit in which they were created," said Legal's Berkowitz. "However, we realize Trump may not appreciate us bringing up his hand size, so we wouldn't be surprised if he showed us their size, or at least one finger's."
The "Hands" ad will be followed up by a number of other "Berkowitz for President" print and TV ads that address other campaign issues and political proclivities.
In the commercial entitled "Leg To Stand On," a split screen shot of Mr. Trump and Mrs. Clinton is accompanied by an announcer's message that "Some candidates are all talk and no action. Not Roger Berkowitz." Mr. Berkowitz's confident image then appears as he is heard saying, "The way I see it, these other candidates are kinda like my fish: They don't have a leg to stand on."
Another spot states, "Most candidates run as a Democrat or Republican. Not Roger Berkowitz." Mr. Berkowitz reminds viewers that "if donkeys or elephants aren't working, give fish a try."

The faux presidential campaign ads will run throughout the political conventions. The ads were created by Legal's long-time advertising agency, DeVito/Verdi.
