Patty Kirby, Head of Client Relations, commented on the additional capital and focus by the company, "The recent high profile media attention to the various issues involving NY cases is very alarming. Although most funding companies shy away from some of these cases, our team of attorneys knows all too well the seriousness of them and the suffering that the victims incur."

After resisting arrest, Garner was allegedly put into a chokehold by NYPD officer Daniel Pantaleo and went unconscious. He was pronounced dead shortly after, while a video of the incident went viral. Police aggression cases are rampant and ongoing while victims continue to face injuries and emotional trauma from these events. Similarly, in March 2013 Irving Mizell was arrested and allegedly beaten in a stairwell by cops. He collapsed while being booked and was pronounced dead at the Richmond University Medical Center. Earlier this month pregnant Rosan Miller was also allegedly caught in a chokehold by NYPD for violating a city law by grilling outside of her Brooklyn home. Claims against the police forces are piling up, as well as unnecessary physical aggression cases, unlawful use of firearms, Tasers, and k9 units have been also been involved in several brutality cases possibly leaving victims eligible for compensation.
"All of these cases in the news will most likely bring serious lawsuits against the city and these are the type of cases, that we believe justice will prevail with large settlements coming in the future," added Ms. Kirby.
Legal-Bay is also dedicating in following the Innocent Project, a New York group highly dedicated to exonerating those who were wrongly convicted, in order to assist victims with getting their lives back on track. Legal-Bay's underwriting will consider funding cases such as: violations of civil rights claims and false arrests, illegal search and seizure cases, state brutality cases during routine arrests, prosecutorial misconduct involving long term incarceration, prison medical malpractice cases involving serious neglect of injuries, and several others.
New York's Rikers Island jail is under fire in the courts as well. In the case of inmate Ronald Spear, who passed away in 2012 from "blunt force trauma," New York City agreed to an award of $2.75 million. In February, Jerome Murdough died by overheating in his cell. The Rikers Island Corrections Officers neglected the inmates and New York City mayor Bill de Blasio set forth an action plan "the Task Force on Behavioral Health and the Criminal Justice System" in order to enhance the criminal justice system. Legal-Bay is staying up to date and following these cases and helping victims of police and jail neglect from NY and throughout the country to California (CA).
Legal-Bay's programs are non-recourse lawsuit cash advances, also known as case funding. None of the programs should be considered to be a lawsuit loan, lawsuit loans, settlement loans, settlement loan, pre-settlement loans, or a pre-settlement loan.
