Legal-Bay Lawsuit Settlement Funding Announces New NFL Settlement Funding Program
Lawsuit cash advance firm announces new funding program for retired NFL players based on the settlement reached between the NFL and former NFL players.
PHILADELPHIA, July 30, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Legal-Bay LLC, The Lawsuit Settlement Funding Company, announced today a new NFL funding program for retired NFL players in light of the recent settlement that was reached between the former players and the NFL. Federal District Judge Anita B. Brody recently approved the landmark potential $1 billion settlement in the NFL concussion lawsuit after the $765MM cap was removed, believing that the settlement terms were now fair. The concussion lawsuits were brought against the league by more than 5,000 former NFL players who claimed the NFL hid the concussion risks and dangers from them. According to The NY Times, the landmark settlement provides payments of up to $5 million for players who have one of several severe neurological disorders, medical monitoring for all players to ascertain if they are eligible for payment, and $10 million for concussion education.

In order to be eligible for the new NFL settlement funding program, retired players must meet certain criteria. The former player must have received a diagnosis from a neurologist, a neuropsychologist, or a neuropsychiatrist for one of the following:
- Level 1.5 Neurocognitive Impairment
- Level 2 Neurocognitive Impairment
- Parkinson's
- Alzheimer's
- ALS - Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis
- Death w/ CTE
To be considered for a lawsuit funding advance, former players must fill out an application, sign a retainer agreement, and provide a medical diagnosis document.
Patty Kirby, COO and Head of NFL Lawsuit Funding at Legal-Bay, commented on the new NFL funding program, "We have been actively involved with NFL concussion lawsuit funding from the beginning, however, we have a new program that clearly spells out what medical documents are needed to get a case funded, as well as reasonable rates of payback now that the settlement has progressed through the courts. Unfortunately, without a lawsuit cash advance, it is likely that most plaintiffs will not see any funds until 2016 or beyond, depending on the appeal process."
Legal-Bay is a lawsuit pre-settlement funding company that provides cash advances and lawsuit money to plaintiffs while they're awaiting payments before their cases are fully settled. Legal-Bay is currently providing up to $100K on pre-settlement lawsuit cash on serious injury NFL concussion cases. The cash advances are on a non-recourse basis, meaning the plaintiff only needs to repay the advance if the case is successful. Legal-Bay does not buy the full claim but only advances a small portion of the expected settlement amount. Any fees or expenses accrued on the advance will be repaid by the plaintiff's lawyer if and when the case is officially settled and paid.
