Legacy Tension Fabric Building at Syracuse Regional Market Doubles As Popular Concert Venue
Multi-purpose fabric facility hosts a year-round farmers' market and exciting concert venue.
SYRACUSE, N.Y., Jun 18, 2014 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- When the Central New York Regional Market Authority contracted with Legacy Building Solutions to build a multi-purpose facility for its year-round farmers' market in Syracuse, N.Y., they knew it would also be able to host other events. That vision has already been established for music fans that know the new building as an exciting concert venue, The F-Shed at the Market.

The F-Shed is a hybrid fabric-steel structure that was custom designed, engineered and erected by Legacy. The customized tension fabric building features a durable rigid frame and was built on a floating concrete slab. The shed is clad with green steel sheeting on the exterior sides to match the market's existing historic structures. Measuring 80 by 273 feet with a clearspan design that allows use of the entire floor space, the F-Shed can accommodate concert crowds of approximately 2,500 people.
"We have about 20 events planned for the F-Shed this year," said Dan Mastronardi, concert promoter and talent buyer for Syracuse-based Creative Concerts. "The building provides a unique environment for attending a concert, and the sound quality inside is amazing. It's a terrific venue."
Acts that have recently performed at the F-Shed include Hardwell, Big Gigantic, Krewella and Umphrey's McGee. Yonder Mountain String Band and Sublime with Rome are scheduled for upcoming performances.
Concert staging is simplified by the building's easy-access, 18-foot wide, high-lift overhead doors in the sidewalls and R/U-insulated doors in the end walls. The structure is equipped with an LED lighting system for evening use, while the translucent fabric roof allows natural light to illuminate the interior during daylight hours.
Air quality inside the shed is enhanced by an active circulation and exhaust ventilation system, as well as passive ventilation in the soffit and peak. Additionally, a wet sprinkler system and heating units are suspended from the ceiling. The tension fabric roof is rated for 90 mph wind, 50 PSF ground snow and 33.5 PSF roof snow. Roof studs were also incorporated for the future addition of solar panels.
