LEGACY Supply Chain Services partners with Military Warriors Support Foundation--a program that awards mortgage-free homes and financial mentoring to veterans wounded in combat
Company executives join Foundation officials to present first home to US Marine Corp veteran Robert Vardaro at LEGACY headquarters in Portsmouth, NH
PORTSMOUTH, N.H., Nov. 7, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Finding and paying for a home is a major hurdle U.S. Marine Corps veteran Robert Vardaro will not face after serving in Iraq and Afghanistan, thanks to a program organized by the Military Warriors Support Foundation (MWSF) and supported by Portsmouth, NH based LEGACY Supply Chain Services. Vardaro and his three-year-old daughter Nevaeh were at LEGACY headquarters in Portsmouth on November 5, where company executives joined MWSF representatives to officially hand over the key to the family's new home located in New England.
The Military Warriors Homes 4 Wounded Heroes program has been providing 100-percent mortgage-free homes throughout the country since 2007 for American heroes in recognition for their incredible service and sacrifice. Vardaro is a native of Westford, Massachusetts. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 2007 to 2011 and was wounded by improvised explosive devices (IEDs) on three separate occasions in September of 2010.
"Making a difference in our communities is a cornerstone value of LEGACY'S culture," explained CEO Ron Cain. "Military heroes like Robert take these values to a level that is humbling and inspiring, and the LEGACY family is proud to support his family through the Homes 4 Wounded Heroes program."
LEGACY has partnered with the Military Warriors Support Foundation to partially support a total of five mortgage-free homes throughout the United States. Additional ceremonies will be held in the next month to officially dedicate homes for wounded veterans and their families near LEGACY operations in Indiana, Illinois, Tennessee and California. The company's sponsorship also includes free three-year Family and Financial mentoring programs for the selected veterans and their families.
Cain says the emphasis on long-term support for veterans drew LEGACY to its sponsorship of the Homes 4 Wounded Heroes initiative. "In addition to awarding homes, the program is focused on supporting vets and their families throughout their critical transition to civilian life," he added.
